The MTB Commissaire, Thierry Nuninger, from France opened the meeting by welcoming everybody to the World Championship in Lillehammer/Hafjell. The room was filled with enthusiastic team leaders and competitors, and when the meeting commenced, you could feel the excitement. He presented the trails, the logistics and the rules. Bernardo Sanchez, one of the Doping Control officers from Spain informed teams about the rules of anti-doping and the process.
Even though the World Championship in mountain biking has more participants from more countries than the world ski championships in Oslo 2011, it has received less media coverage here in Norway. It is however a major international event where there are expected 1000 participants from 49 different nations, and 300 accredited journalists.
Norway has several hopes for a medal. Among these are Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå(41) who has more championship medals than any other mountain biker in history. You can follow the live results at UCI’s Websites: http://mtbworldchamps.com and you can follow on social media with #MTBworlds2014.
The opening ceremony will take place at Maihaugen in Lillehammer at 7pm tonight. Nuninger specified that all teams are required to attend today after the eliminator podium presentation.
The meeting ended with a big thank you and good luck!
